When you buy a TB Davies loft ladder, you’re buying cutting-edge Scandinavian design created in a state-of-the-art factory. Our have been through a hi-tech production process in Denmark by the time they reach our distribution centre in Cardiff. Dolle’s Danish factory in Frøstrup is also home to the company’s research and development department. There, new technologies and processes which benefit all Dolle’s manufacturing processes are created and tested. Quality is crafted into the loft ladders from the moment work begins on them. That’s why we’ve sold thousands of the ladders since we partnered with Dolle in 2008 – and it’s also the reason our returns rate for them is very low. As you would expect from a top Danish brand, they embrace high quality design.
The Scandinavian tradition
The principles of minimal design and enhancing simplicity and functionality are typically Scandinavian and very much a Dolle trait. Key Account Manager Leif Kristensen says: “Danish design is extremely fast moving today, but at its core is about incredible functionality with aesthetics that are clean and compliment your everyday life.”
When you think about loft ladders, you think Dolle – just as you think Bang and Olufsen when you think about state of the art televisions, Poul Henningsen when you think about lighting, Stelton when you think about dinnerware, and Georg Jensen when you think about silverware. Dolle springs from the tradition of Danish furniture making – the same tradition which has made brands like The Republic of Fritz Hansen famous, alongside renowned designers such as Poul Kjærholm, Arne Jacobsen, Hans J. Wegner, and Piet Hein.
That tradition’s beautiful minimalism has helped Dolle deliver an attractive range of stairs and attic access points. From high-quality basic solutions, to premium attic access with larger apertures and premium wood options, and fire-rated models for commercial applications, Dolle has something for every project.
Respecting the environment
Of course, care for the environment is an important part of Dolle’s vision. It says: “Respect for the environment and helping build a sustainable planet are a central part of Danish culture.
“Within our group, we manage the entire supply chain including forestry, sawmilling, and manufacturing of FSC-certified solid wood components.”
As well as sustainable sourcing of wood, Dolle’s products help you insulate your home or business premises and reduce energy loss – potentially helping you reduce your heating bills. Dolle’s doors are insulated well, rebated, and made to deliver and extra-tight seal. The air seals are tested to the most stringent German and European standards including EN12207.
Dolle: A Danish success story
The company was founded in 1951 by Carl Dolle. The prestige attic and staircase manufacturer is situated in the small village of Frøstrup in the north-western region of Denmark. The area is also home to Aarhus, which is the 2017 European Capital of Culture. It is also Denmark’s happiest city!
When Carl bought an established furniture factory in the early 1980s, volume production became possible. Now, the group has more than 300 staff and exports to more than 40 countries.
