1. Choosing the Right Ladder

One of the most common mistakes made by ladder users is choosing the wrong ladder for the job.

3. Safety While Climbing

Factors that contribute to falls from ladders include:
Haste or sudden movement
Overreaching
Lack on attention
Improper climbing posture, such as standing to high or straddling the ladder
Carrying objects and not maintaining three points of contact

2. Safety Before the First Step

Are you taking the time to properly inspect your ladders before starting to work? A thorough inspection must be made when the ladder is initially purchased and each time it is placed into service.

4. Safety at the Top

Just as it’s important to pay attention while climbing and descending a ladder, it is important to follow safety rules while working on the ladder.

Ladder Injuries in Perspective

Falls from heights are one of the leading causes of serious work-related injuries and deaths. OSHA estimates that on average, approximately 200,000 serious injuries and 345 fatalities occur annually among workers directly affected by falls. To put this figure in perspective, on average 271 die in plane crashes each year in the US.

Taking Part in #LadderSafetyMonth 2024

The UK Ladder Association estimates there are around two million ladders in daily use in the UK. There were 29 falls from height fatalities in 2021/2022 in the UK.

To help raise awareness of ladder safety, we have joined the #LadderSafetyMonth initiative in the United States to demonstrate how ladder products can keep you safe when used correctly for the right application.

American Ladder Institute (ALI), the only approved developer of safety standards for the US ladder industry, is the presenting sponsor for National Ladder Safety Month.

Ladder Safety Month

In 2022, the CEO of Wing (Little Giant Ladders) and current Chair of the American Ladder Institute addressed the Ladder Association Conference in Stratford-upon-Avon and discussed the potential improvements when we work together to improve ladder safety.
