No Christmas tree is ever complete without a set of sparkling lights.
When a gorgeous Christmas tree from the Prescoed prison forestry team was put up for an HMPPS (prison and probation service) staff internal awards event in Cardiff, though, there was confusion over the lights.
Unfortunately, the 20ft tree at the venue, Cornerstone church in Charles Street, was left without its lights hours before the event which was to be attended by 150 people including prison service dignitaries. The service was naturally keen to ensure the venue was looking its best.
The problem: the height of the tree. This was not a job for a small step ladder! The event organisers were left without a way to safely string its beautiful lights on its tree.
The solution: HMP Cardiff’s Greg Fisher knew local ladderman, Managing Director David Gray, so he knew the perfect person to call.
Our experts in working at height came to the rescue with our one-man X-Tower.
We took along the mobile scaffolding to the venue, and got the job done in an hour. The event, earlier this month, went off without a hitch.
Mr Gray said: “We dressed the tree, took care of everything, and got it all done with just a few hours to spare before it began.
“They had no other way of doing it, so it was wonderful to be able to spread a little Christmas cheer and help them out.
“The only drawback was we got a ticket on the van!”
A spokeswoman for HMPPS said: “It was very kind of TB Davies to come to our aid at such short notice and we are very grateful. The lights did make a massive difference and made the event feel very Christmassy indeed.”
The X-Tower scaffold tower is a one-man tower which can be put up quickly and moved easily into position. It’s easy to take to sites because it fits in the back of a van. Find out more here
