CAF Railway knew who to call when ordering more steps for its Newport facility in South Wales. TB Davies supplied a range of Railway Carriage Side Access Steps, including a track-mounted Rail Windscreen Access Platform, in 2019.
TB Davies supplied the new Side Access Steps in the same 6061 T6 (Aircraft Grade Alloy) aluminium profiles fitted with removable guardrails. These platforms are popular, as the wide platform area ensures a complete 360-degree workspace in which to work, including safe access to the side door of the railway carriage. Adding D-rubber along the leading edge keeps the railway carriage safe from knocks and damage.
CAF is currently building Transport for Wales (TfW) Class 197 Trains for the Wales and Borders network and Northern Rail and maintaining its rolling stock.
As well as producing diesel trains, TfW is investing £738m to transform the valley lines to Treherbert, Aberdare, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhymney and Coryton, electrifying 172 km of track and upgrading infrastructure to enable improved journey times and more trains per hour.
With more than half the trains assembled in Wales, TB Davies is proud to be a supplier to this vital initiative upgrading the rail infrastructure and moving away from diesel to electrification.
Our engineering team from TB Davies were on site to commission the steps in August.
