At this year’s Ladder Association Conference, it was great to hear an address from the Chairman of the American Ladder Institute (ALI) and CEO of Little Giant Ladder Systems, Ryan Moss. Ryan explained that ladders had been around longer than the wheel, and as the product is a part of our daily lives, familiarity often leads to user error.
#LadderSafetyMonth is a US programme developed by the ALI and supported by leading trade associations. In its sixth year, the campaign raises awareness among businesses and homeowners that ladders are ‘Critical Safety Devices’ developed to high standards and require planning, understanding and the user’s full attention before climbing.
The access industry in the US is worth a billion dollars, and Ryan called on the ladder community to build ladders that are inherently safer by design and keep people safe. He congratulated the Ladder Association on celebrating 75 years, commended the work that continues on standards and education, and invited the United Kingdom to participate in Ladder Safety Month and help transform it from an American to a global programme to help reduce injuries and save lives.
