The house is typical of the 1920s with tall chimneys, leaded windows, gabled ends and a steeply pitched roof. House builders built many homes like this across the UK. The garage already made way for a new extension incorporating a workshop/garage to give owners Duncan and Emily more space for themselves and their three children.
Emily works from home and runs an online personalised gift business and quickly found the workshop required more space to store the materials she needed on a less frequent basis. The couple decided the obvious solution was to go up into the roof void but were unsure if it was something they could do themselves.
After a long look online, they decided to call TB Davies for some advice and spoke to Jay. During the call, Jay determined the frequency of use and asked Emily to take a few pictures and obtain some basic dimensions. Emily said, ‘We’ve done loads of work on the house but cutting the plasterboard was quite daunting. We roped in my brother-in-law to help lift the ladder into position. The whole fit took about a day to complete, and once we boarded the loft space, we finally managed to clear my workshop floor.’
