Case Study CAF Railway

January 30, 2023

CAF Railway offers comprehensive global rail solutions and provides efficient and reliable transportation for its customers. As a result, their repair and maintenance crews need the necessary tools and equipment to maintain their trains to the highest standard. CAF Railway has a maintenance facility in Newport, South Wales, and that was why CAF Railway came to locally based TB Davies, a specialist for working at height products, for assistance. With our expertise in providing access solutions for clients across a variety of industries, we were able to design and manufacture several bespoke work platforms that could help CAF Railway.

TB Davies Windscreen Railway Access Step

Daniel Lynch, HSE advisor to CAF Railway, was concerned about reducing the fall risks from work platforms and wanted to know about gate options for a large order of new work platforms for the Newport maintenance facility. He approached our sales team as TB Davies had previously supplied equipment to CAF, and we were happy to confirm the addition of a gate to the side-mounted access steps.

The maintenance crews must reach the passenger doors whilst the train stands on an elevated platform in the maintenance depot. As a result, the work platforms needed 10 x treads as a minimum.

Previously, TB Davies supplied several passenger door access steps and a rail-mounted windscreen fitting platform, enabling CAF engineers to access the side doors safely and safely fit train windscreens. This is incredibly important as it ensures the team can perform maintenance to the rail carriages with minimal disruption. Ultimately, these measures implemented by CAF Railway will ensure that passengers can continue to enjoy safe and reliable journeys.

Daniel Lynch was pleased to receive the new work platform sets and wasted no time getting them in use. By investing in these cost-effective solutions from TB Davies, CAF Railway has seen a significant increase in efficiency across their maintenance shifts and improved safety standards.
