What is a Work Platform?

January 18, 2023

A work platform is a safe and practical choice for many industries, including manufacturing. Its primary purpose is to provide workers with a stable, elevated surface to stand on when performing tasks that require being at an elevated height or reaching difficult-to-access areas. The work platform can be used for various operations, such as operating machinery, working on production lines, and stepping over moving conveyor belts.

Work platforms support the user’s weight while performing their job safely and securely. TB Davies has a wide range of work platforms ranging from fixed platforms of varying step sizes anchored to provide access to a machine to folding platforms that are quick and easy to deploy across the site.

The TB Davies work platform range includes the DPS/ DPD steps, which are ideal for machine access. Both come with an optional handrail. The Bridging Step allows users over moving conveyor belt systems and can be fitted with wheels or floor mounts and bolted to the floor. Our low-level heavy-duty platforms are mobile and easy to move around. Plus, our heavy-duty work platform is a perfect alternative to cheap low-level work platforms, with FSC-rated floorboard capable of withstanding heavy-duty daily use. Or we have the Meca-Modul, a custom made solution for working safely at height in factories, production lines and around machines, designed for easy, self-assembly.

Depending on the application, our work platforms come in several sizes and styles, including folding platforms for easy storage, height-adjustable platforms, and work platforms with optional or fitted guard rails for maximum safety.

Using work platforms reduces the risk of accidents caused by falls from heights because it allows users to reach awkward points that need to be routinely available for inspection or service. Falls from height often happen because users climb onto unsuitable objects or equipment to access a point. Providing a well-placed work platform helps reduce or remove this risk.

Overall, using a work platform is an essential safety measure in most industries where employees need regular access to elevated areas, mainly where workers use dangerous objects/equipment to gain access and risk a fall or injury.
