TB Davies Response to the Ladder Association Telescopic Ladders Consumer Behaviour Report

May 17, 2024

In response to the recent survey by the Ladder Association into Telescopic Ladders, TB Davies would like to assure customers that the Xtend+Climb telescopic ladder sold in the UK for over twenty years, meets or exceeds industry standards, including EN 131-6:2020.

The report explains that 72% of respondents in their survey had purchased telescopic ladders online, highlighting the growing popularity of e-commerce platforms. While many online purchases were made through major retailers, 30% opted for online marketplaces.

However, the survey results raise concerns about safety awareness. While price remains the critical factor influencing consumers’ decisions, an alarming 62% did not consider “product safety” or reference to quality marks among their top priorities. This lack of awareness exposes consumers to potentially substandard products available in the UK market, particularly online.

Worryingly, nearly half of the respondents (47%) did not perform pre-purchase checks, leaving them vulnerable to rogue traders and unsafe equipment.

David Gray MD of TB Davies

David Gray, Managing Director of TB Davies and Chairman of the Ladder Association, said, “We have sold the Xtend+Climb for over twenty years, with an excellent safety record. The major retailers we sell to include Screwfix, Toolstaiton and Wickes, who all conduct considerable due diligence on their products.

“It is concerning that consumers purchasing from marketplaces, such as Amazon and e-Bay, are not doing their homework and are not aware that the same checks are not being conducted. The government needs to do more to improve the regulation of marketplaces and, until then, urge consumers to ensure the brand they are buying is reputable. If they doubt it, contact the Ladder Association for advice.”

Established in 2001, the Xtend+Climb originates in the USA and is sold worldwide, earning its reputation as a trusted brand for professional users due to its robust build quality and rigorous adherence to safety standards and independent certifications.

As a brand committed to excellence, Xtend+Climb ensures that its telescopic ladders exceed industry-specific requirements. These ladders undergo thorough testing and quality checks, guaranteeing their reliability and durability. Professional users appreciate Xtend+Climb’s focus on safety, making it their go-to choice for working at height.

Whether it’s construction sites, maintenance tasks, or other demanding environments, Xtend+Climb provides peace of mind with its certified and dependable products.
