The SureFIT Measuring Guide for a Loft Ladder
Many people choose to install a loft ladder to make it easier to access their loft space. Loft ladders can provide convenient and safe access to your attic and can be installed relatively easily. TB Davies makes it easy to install a loft ladder correctly using our SureFIT guide and ensures you buy the right size. All you have to do is follow our easy, step-by-step guide below.
Before measuring up, get a quality tape-measure, e.g., Stanley or other named brand. A 5m tape-measure will be plenty long enough, and will enable you to measure the floor-to-ceiling height accurately.
For a SureFIT step-by-step guide of what you need to measure to ensure you buy the correct size, keep scrolling down.
1. Measure the Loft Opening
Measure the opening in your ceiling where you’ll be installing the loft ladder. You’ll need to know the length and width of the opening and the floor-to-ceiling height so that you can purchase a ladder that fits correctly. For example, our loft ladder range fits floor-to-ceiling heights up to 2.8m.
Ensure that you measure the narrowest point in the loft opening to ensure that the loft frame fits.
You’ll need to check that your loft opening is level and square, i.e., with 90 right angle corners, making it suitable for our loft ladder. All you need to do is measure the opening diagonally from corner to corner on both sides. Then, compare the two measurements. They should be the same.
2. Complete & Submit Form
Complete the form below and enter your measurements. Send this, remembering to attach an image, if necessary, and we’ll work out what fits.
Depending on the size of your loft opening, you may require spacer blocks to ensure a tight fit. Ensure that you have these to-hand when you come to fit your Loft Ladder.
