TB Davies & Little Giant #LadderSafetyMonth Collaboration

April 4, 2017

TB Davies is excited to announce a collaboration with Little Giant Ladders for promoting #LadderSafetyMonth across the UK. Following the recent visit of Little Giant Ladders CEO Ryan Moss, TB Davies will be working closely with the US company to promote the event. Ryan Moss, who is also President of the American Ladder Institute, announced the alliance with TB Davies as crucial to creating a safer workplace as they shared strategies and ideas on ladder safety.

The Managing Director David Gray is extremely proud of how far the relationship with Little Giant Ladders has developed. Over the last ten years both companies have made it their mission to promote ladder safety as a vital part of business culture as well as introducing innovative safety aspects into their product ranges. “It was interesting understanding how the American ladder Institute are promoting ladder safety and Little Giant working with OHSA the US Health and Safety Executive to reduce injuries customarily associated with ladders,” commented David.

Following the recent visit, TB Davies will be supporting Ladder Safety Month in the US.  This is the first ever ladder safety awareness event run by the American ladder Institute (ALI). David Gray announced: “We are launching the website to support the initiative by American Ladder Institute. The aim is to raise awareness about ladder safety in the UK workplace, prevent injuries and save lives!”

Recent statistics show that an estimated 2 million ladders are used daily in the UK. Around 48,000 people attend Accident and Emergency departments annually because of a domestic accident with a ladder and problems with ladders can also account for up to forty percent of deaths caused by falls in the workplace during 2015-16. In the US, figures show that over three hundred people die every year in ladder-related accidents and thousands suffer disabling injuries. Ladder Safety Month is intended to help reduce the number of deaths and fatalities caused by ladders.

The focus of Ladder Safety Month will be on the following areas during March 2017:

  • March 1 – 11: Innovations in Ladder Design that make Work at Height Safe
  • March 12 – 18: Ladder Safety at Work
  • March 19 – 25: Ladder Safety at Home
  • March 26 – April 1: Ladder Training & Inspections

The programme aims to promote national employers to train their managers and staff in ladder safety and make companies understand how frequently they need to inspect their equipment. The awareness drive will cover using ladders at home and in the workplace and aims to improve knowledge on the different types of products used when working at heights to improve risk assessments and identify the most suitable product for the job. It is also really important that companies and individuals understand how to correctly dispose of old, damaged and obsolete ladders.

The importance of Ladder Safety Month extends beyond preventing injuries and implementing best practice and training. TB Davies and Little Giant Ladders also want to improve the overall image of safety within the ladder industry and introduce employers to recent innovations in the ladder market. The companies are working together on a project which introduces a Hyperlite range of ladders produced using a revolutionary process in Utah, America. The new range of ladders will be produced using a ‘Hi Viz’ green colour which is intended to reduce the large number of workplace injuries caused by other people who walk or drive into an extension ladder. It is exactly this kind of exciting innovation that encourages TB Davies to continue to be inspired and strive to become leaders of their industry.
