Cardiff based ladder manufacturer TB Davies confirmed the launch of the world’s safest extension ladder, the HyperLite SumoStance from Little Giant at the Safety & Health Expo in London, June 2018.
Ladder safety is currently going through a period of change in the UK with the introduction of stabilising bars to conventional ladders to make them safer. These meet the new EN131 standard requirements. As traditional ladders make modest improvements to safety, the Little Giant HyperLite SumoStance range now provides ladder users with much greater safety usually the preserve of scaffold users.
The SumoStance is built on the HyperLite extension ladder platform, not yet officially available in the UK, and is the lightest EN131 professionally rated fiberglass extension ladder in the world. The patent-pending HyperLite weighs up to 40% less than the leading competitor’s standard fiberglass ladder without sacrificing strength and stability.
Little Giant’s ‘Hi-Viz Green’ transforms the ladder into what must rate among the most attention-grabbing ladders to hit the UK market – ‘Green Ladders’. The shade of green is the most easily detected colour hue to the human eye, and the colour helps reduce some of the most catastrophic falls, caused by people who walk or drive into a ladder whilst in use.
The HyperLite SumoStance is fitted with Little Giant’s patented SumoStance levelling outrigger system, which more than doubles the ladder’s base width and increases side-tip stability. The SumoStance’s intuitive safety features help ensure a safe, stable set-up for any job on almost any surface and remains lighter than any other manufacturer’s lightest ordinary extension ladders.
Safety continues under the surface as the TB Davies team will demonstrate to delegates in London how a side-to-side bubble level and front-to-back angle indicator, make it possible to set up the ladder safely. The unique side-mounted, dual-pulley system reduces the effort required to lift the fly section by 45% and removes the potential trip hazard caused by traditional centre pulley systems.
Its wide rungs let you work comfortably without foot fatigue. The patent-pending Sure-Set™ foot allows you to lock the feet into either flat or spike positions.

The HyperLite SumoStance will become the flagship model in the TB Davies ladder range when it arrives in the spring of 2019. Prices are set to start around £350.
