The revised BS EN 131-4:2020 standard was published on April 30th, 2020.
The new standard supersedes BS EN 131-4:2007 and is effective immediately. Typically there is a transition period of up between 12-24 months.
The revised standard relates to single or multiple hinge-joint ladders. It impacts our multi-purpose range of ladders at TB Davies and includes various ladders from our Little Giant Ladder brand. All the multi-hinged ladders have been redesigned, with new versions now available. These include the Conquest and Conquest PRO. Soon, we will have the Conquest PRO GRP, which will be available in HiViz green in keeping with the Little Giant King Kombo range.
What has changed in this updated standard? In line with the changes made to EN 131, ladders must now have a wide base in direct proportion to the overall height of the ladder. These can either be fixed-width stabiliser bars or adjustable outriggers.
